The Wigan striker Amr Zaki is expected to be out for at least three weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in Egypt's 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Zambia on Sunday.
Zaki, who scored Egypt's goal, sustained the injury during the second half of the match but was forced to stay on the field until the final whistle as his side had made all three of their substitutions.
The news will come as a blow to the Wigan manager, Steve Bruce, who looks likely be without his leading goalscorer for forthcoming Premier League matches against Everton and Arsenal.
A club spokesman told the Guardian that they were awaiting the return of Zaki, who turns 26 tomorrow, in order for him to be assessed by medical staff.
Zaki, who is on loan from Zamalek, has scored 10 league goals for Wigan, who are seventh in the Premier League.
