The Leicester full-back Geordan Murphy will captain Ireland against New Zealand Maori in the hosts's centenary fixture on Friday. It is the first time Murphy, who gained his 67th Ireland cap when coming on as a substitute during Saturday's loss to New Zealand, has led the side.

Other changes include Rhys Ruddock, the under–20s captain who flew in from the junior world championships in Argentina, who will play on the blindside of the scrum alongside the No8 Chris Henry and another uncapped player, Niall Ronan.

Shane Horgan is on the right wing, Gavin Duffy and Paddy Wallace in the centre, Johne Murphy on the left with Eoin Reddan at scrum-half and Jonathan Sexton at fly-half for one of the more difficult non-internationals. A new front-row combination has also been named, with Marcus Horan and Tom Court propping the scrum on either side of the hooker, John Fogarty.

New Zealand, who trounced Ireland 66-28 last weekend, have made one change in the XV to meet Wales in Dunedin on Saturday. Victor Vito, who made his Test debut off the bench on Saturday, has replaced Jerome Kaino on the blindside flank.

Kaino damaged his calf at New Plymouth and misses the Wales game altogether, with Adam Thomson one of three changes on the replacements bench; the prop Tony Woodcock replaces Neemia Tialata and Richard Kahui comes in for Zac Guildford after recovering from a chest injury. Benson Stanley is retained in the midfield alongside Conrad Smith.

The veteran full-back Mils Muliaina had returned to the squad this week after a broken thumb and a calf injury, but New Zealand's head coach Graham Henry has stuck with the impressive Israel Dagg for the final Test at the famous Carisbrook stadium.

Carisbrook, which is sold out, will be replaced for next year's World Cup, by the indoor Forsyth Barr Stadium. "Carisbrook is an iconic ground that has hosted some marvellous rugby games over the years," said the All Blacks head coach, Graham Henry. "It will be a special occasion and the All Blacks are delighted to be part of the celebrations to mark the final Test at the Brook," Henry added.
