Two goals each for Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko helped Manchester City to a 6-1 win at Old Trafford. It's 81 years since Manchester United last conceded six at home. Raphael Honigstein, Barry Glendenning and Simon Burnton were watching on. Meanwhile Chelsea passed up the chance to go second in the Premier League after losing to QPR a bad-tempered affair at Loftus Road.
Balotelli's involvement in the Manchester derby had been cast into doubt after the fire brigade were called to his house in the early hours of Saturday morning to extinguish a blaze caused by fireworks being discharged in his bathroom. "Why always me?" read the undershirt he revealed after putting City in front.
In Spain, Sid Lowe watched Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo hit a hat-trick to take his club above Barcelona in La Liga. There was a hat-trick too for Tottenham reject Kevin-Prince Boateng as Milan overcame a three-goal half-time deficit to beat Lecce 4-3. And James Richardson notes that Internazionale finally managed to score their first goal at the San Siro in their 1-0 win over Chievo Verona.
In Germany, Bayern Munich remain at the top of the Bundesliga despite losing at Hannover. Reigning champions Dortmund thrashed Cologne 5-0 to stay second.
