Martyn Thomas: Acting RFU chief executive
Stood down as chairman after the Blackett report but remained acting chief executive despite efforts from almost 140 clubs to oust him amid the chaos that has gripped the RFU
What does the future hold Will stand down from his position when his contract expires. He has also been ruled out of the running to become chairman of England World Cup 2015
Martin Johnson: England team manager
His hand was weakened by England's performances at the World Cup on and off the pitch. Contract expires next month
What does the future hold Partly depends on the potentially conflicting reviews by Fran Cotton, the professional game board and Rob Andrew and partly on what happens to the performance director role
Bill Beaumont: Candidate for IRB chairman
Sits on the RFU board as a co-opted member and as such was the only director not advised to stand down in the Blackett report. Seen as a key Thomas ally
What does the future hold Has long-held ambition to become chairman of the International Rugby Board and is challenging Bernard Lapasset. A vote due to be held last month was deferred until December
John Steele: Former chief executive
The former chief executive of UK Sport was appointed in June 2010 but Thomas forced him out a year later over the botched recruitment process for performance director's role
What does the future hold Steele, largely vindicated by the Blackett report, is still licking his wounds following his bruising experience and is bound by a confidentiality agreement
Fran Cotton: Former England prop
Commissioned by Thomas to conduct a wide-ranging independent review into the structure of the national side and the World Cup debacle in New Zealand
What does the future hold Players refused to co-operate and on Wednesday the review was scrapped altogether. Instead there will be a new independent review when the professional game board has reported
Sir Clive Woodward: Former England coach
Thomas was determined to bring him back to the RFU as performance director but, furious at the way the ground kept shifting, Woodward eventually committed himself to his current Olympic roles
What does the future hold There is a suspicion that he wants to return to the RFU, even if he stays at the British Olympic Association until after the 2012 Games
Rob Andrew: Operations director
The former England fly-half is another who has clung on. He was in effect demoted from director of elite rugby by Steele but re-emerged as de facto performance director
What does the future hold Has announced that he accepted position of professional rugby director and is leading a review of Johnson's World Cup performance. But his new role has yet to be ratified
Francis Baron: Former chief executive
Appointed the RFU's chief executive in 1998 and rebuilt its finances but was persuaded to retire early to make way for Steele, who was seen as more of a "rugby man"
What does the future hold Has remained a behind-the-scenes agitator since leaving Twickenham. Did not rate Steele and has now publicly criticised Thomas. Has hinted he may return if asked
Paul Vaughan: RFU board member
An influential figure on the RFU board as the business operations director, now chief executive of the company running the 2015 World Cup. Abstained from vote over Steele's dismissal
What does the future hold Was talked of as a possible future chief executive but is likely to remain in charge of the crucial 2015 planning
