Wayne Rooney has criticised Sky Sports's Martin Tyler and Graeme Souness for their reactions to him kicking Cardiff City's Jordon Mutch during Manchester United's 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The forward highlighted an incident between Cardiff's Gary Medel and Marouane Fellaini in which the former appeared to raise his hands to the Belgian, with Rooney questioning why Souness had not criticised that.

Rooney was booked for the seventh-minute incident in which he lashed out at Mutch. Although Malky Mackay, the Cardiff manager, praised Neil Swarbrick, the referee, for his handling of the incident. Souness, working as a Sky pundit, claimed the striker has an "exploding head".

In a series of tweets Rooney admitted his challenge was bad but then lashed out at Souness and Tyler, the match commentator.

On Sunday evening, the striker wrote: "Just watched game back. I agree mine was bad tackle and ref dealt with it. And Martin Tyler didn't shut up about it all game."

Another tweet, referring to Medel, read: "Then someone slaps someone in face and he doesn't speak a word about it. I like Martin but that's poor from him."

"Sourness [sic] the rules are u kick out u should be off. Souness medel gives left hook he's done his job. Haha brilliant."

A further tweet read: "Sourness was sarcastic for everyone biting", though it is unclear what this referred to.
