England are through to the final of the Junior World Championship, where they will face South Africa on Friday. The defending champions defeated Ireland 42-15 in their semi-final in New Zealand having taken control with four first-half tries. Harry Sloan, Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi, Howard Packman and Tom Woolstencroft all touched down to give England a 34-3 lead and, though Ireland fought back in the second half with tries from Garry Ringrose and Alex Wootton, they fell well short.

South Africa beat New Zealand 32‑25 in the other semi-final but the 2012 champions needed a late try from their hooker Corniel Els to make the difference. The outstanding player, South Africa’s fly-half and captain Handré Pollard, scored 17 of their points, with a try, three conversions and two penalties. Pollard scored South Africa’s opening try before converting tries by Sergeal Petersen and Els.
