Jack on racism

• May: Fifa vice-president Jack Warner attacks the BNP presence at England's World Cup 2018 bid launch; Fifa commit to "fighting the cancer of racism in all forms" and "removing this blight from our game".
• September: Jack appears in recently obtained video footage telling an audience in Trinidad in 2006 about Panorama journalist Andrew Jennings' attempts to question him over alleged corruption: "No foreigner, particularly a white foreigner, will come to my country and harass me." (Other footage highlights – Warner refers twice to Jennings' dead mother, and tells the "old white Englishman": "I would spit on you – but I will not dignify you with my spit.") Footage here.

• Meanwhile – latest media release from Fifa.com: "Fifa President Joseph S Blatter is urging footballers around the world to support the moral and ethical principles for which Fifa has always stood. Mr Blatter said: 'Through football, we protect and communicate the strong basic values that children and young people need, such as solidarity, tolerance, respect and discipline. Football is a school of life!'"

Implications: apology

• Last month: Chelsea lawyers secure apologies from the Sun, the Sunday Times and the Observer over implications of "extravagance" among Chelsea players in inaccurate reports that the squad, including John Terry, had spent £120,000 on a party for Salomon Kalou. Chelsea attacked "the implications of these false claims".
• Last week: JT agrees a new £151k-a-week deal worth £39.2m.

(JT's contract announcement came four weeks after he hit back at sceptics who questioned his delay in denying links with Manchester City: "I know there's been comment that I should have made a statement earlier [but]... it's never been about getting a new deal, we've never spoken about a new contract over the past five weeks. I've got three years left on my contract and I love the club. It was never an issue."

Also from the Bridge

1: Number of months before Chelsea's transfer ban for tapping (following their suspended points deduction for poaching Ashley Cole in 2006) that "angry" Chelsea sources told the press they planned to report Manchester City for tapping JT: "Mark Hughes is totally out of order," said the source. "He could be in a lot of trouble."

Kind words

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie says he's staying at the club despite the takeover and the pressure of near-administration. "I want to keep working hard for this football club. I don't want to be anywhere else. I've had hundreds of emails of support from fans – that helped with my decision, without doubt." Also helping with the decision: rises in "directors' emoluments" confirmed in the club's last accounts, taking Storrie's package to £1.2m – the fourth highest in the Premier League.

Number crunching

£200k: amount Salisbury City owe to HM Revenue & Customs, which put the club into administration last week.
£200k: amount the 20 Premier League clubs spend on player wages every hour and a half.

Small changes

Newest backer of the 10:10 environment campaign: "Reducing your carbon footprint isn't as hard as you'd think," say Spurs. "It's all about making small lifestyle changes. Tottenham have worked hard towards encouraging fans and staff to use public transport, reducing private car travel to less than 38%." Other Spurs travel news last month: Harry Redknapp tells the Daily Mail about commuting to training in a helicopter: "It was great, until it started raining. I wasn't so keen on it then, looking out of the window. So I stick to driving, I don't mind that. I get to sit in a Merc. It's very nice."

Exact moment

Mexican soap star Alberich Bormann says he "scoffs" at reports he's seeing Giovani Dos Santos's singer/actress girlfriend Belinda. The pair were pictured by Mexican press kissing at a party, but Bormann says: "It was totally nothing. The photo was taken at a misleading angle at the exact moment that nothing happened." Reports say Belinda, also linked with a bullfighter called Payo, is "relaxed".

Touch: lost it

Playboy model and ex-Big Brother Brazil contestant Priscila Pires says she snubbed Adriano "despite" his track record. Last season the Flamengo striker dated a series of local celebs including B-list dancers Strawberry Woman and Caviar Woman. "I know Adriano only goes out with physically adept women, so I'm flattered to be linked. It delights my ego. But seriously. Doing Adriano is not on my agenda."
