Captain Dunne misses City’s trip to Spain after birth of son

A newborn son means Manchester City captain Richard Dunne will be absent from Uefa Cup duty in Spain
  
  


The Manchester City captain, Richard Dunne, has ruled himself out of the club's Uefa Cup match against Racing Santander tomorrow following the birth of his son in the early hours of this morning.

The Irish defender did not travel with the rest of the squad to Spain and will instead spend time with his wife and their new-born baby.

Benjani Mwaruwari and Daniel Sturridge will also miss the game because of injury while fellow striker Jo has not travelled because of a virus.

City have already qualified for the last 32 of the competition.

Provisional squad: Hart, Richards, Ball, Onuoha, Zabaleta, Ireland, Wright-Phillips, Robinho, Elano, Vassell, Garrido, Schmeichel, Fernandes, Caicedo, Hamann, Evans, Ben Haim, Logan, Kompany, Berti.
