Thierry Dusautoir has been rewarded for his fine performance in the World Cup final by being named as the world player of the year at Monday's IRB awards.

The France captain beat off opposition from the All Blacks' Piri Weepu, Jerome Kaino and Ma'a Nonu and the Australians David Pocock and Will Genia to land the award.

The list of past winners includes Dan Carter, Jonny Wilkinson, Bryan Habana and the All Blacks captain, Richie McCaw, who claimed the prize in 2009 and 2010.

The World Cup winners, New Zealand, were marked out as the team of the year while their coach, Graham Henry, landed coach of the year, but there was an unexpected boost for England with George Ford, the 18-year-old Leicester fly-half, taking the junior player of the year award.

Ford, the son of the England defence coach Mike Ford, was the youngest player at the 2011 Under-20 Junior World Cup in Italy but shone for England, who made their way to the final before losing to New Zealand. He is also the youngest player to win the award.

Henry, meanwhile, will lead the Barbarians against Australia at Twickenham next month.

Henry and his assistant, Steven Hansen, have accepted offers to coach the famous side against the Wallabies on 26 November.

The duo guided the All Blacks to success in Sunday's Rugby World Cup final, beating France 8-7 at Auckland's Eden Park to end a 24-year wait for the Webb Ellis Trophy.
