Tottenham Hotspur defender Pascal Chimbonda has expressed his excitement at the chance of joining Roy Keane's Sunderland, but his Spurs team-mate Younes Kaboul seems unlikely to follow him to Wearside after his agent said: "Younes wouldn't join Sunderland even if there was an earthquake."
Chimbonda and Kaboul are half of a four-man group at Spurs targeted by Sunderland manager Roy Keane, who is anxious to make his first summer signings. The remaining two, Steed Malbranque and Teemu Tainio, are due in the north-east later today for their own talks, but Kaboul's agent Rudy Raba says his client is waiting for a call from Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.
"Younes wouldn't join Sunderland even if there was an earthquake," said Raba. "We have more interesting options than Sunderland. I can tell you for sure that he's going to stay in England next season and, at Portsmouth, you are more watched. No disrespect, but playing at Sunderland would not help his international career."
Chimbonda, who is also a target for Everton, said that he was particularly impressed with Keane and his plans for the club. The 29-year-old French international will now wait for the two clubs to agree on terms.
"I can confirm that I travelled to meet Roy Keane today at Sunderland's training ground," he said. "I was extremely impressed with what he had to say. His honesty and openness really were fantastic and I particularly like the plans he has for Sunderland Football Club. The opportunity excites me and I hope he was impressed with what I had to say. Now it is down to the club to sort out the personal terms and I will wait to see what happens."
