Gloucester's James Simpson-Daniel was named Guinness Premiership player of the season last night. Simpson-Daniel scored 10 tries in 18 Premiership appearances to win the vote ahead of Olly Barkley and Akapusi Qera.

Meanwhile Newcastle have appointed the former Scotland and Lions back Alan Tait to their coaching staff. He will concentrate on defence, skills and backs coaching at Kingston Park.
