Remember 1998?
The worst injury crisis suffered by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United probably came in March 1998, when United's season unravelled with defeat to their title rivals Arsenal and elimination from the Champions League by Monaco. At various stages that month, they were missing Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Gary Pallister, Nicky Butt, Ronny Johnsen and Phil Neville. United, without the squad depth that is common nowadays, had to play a number of players out of position and turn to reserves like Ben Thornley, John Curtis and Michael Clegg. Arsenal, 12 points behind at the start of March, won the title with ease.
