Manchester United are set to sign the Norway striker Elisabeth Terland from Brighton. The 23-year-old was the joint second-highest scorer in the Women’s Super League last season and her 13 league goals, equalling one every 137 minutes she played, constituted half Brighton’s tally for the entire WSL campaign.

She is understood to have agreed a two-year deal plus a further year’s option with United and she will be their third signing of this summer’s transfer window, following the Netherlands defender Dominique Janssen and the France forward Melvine Malard from Wolfsburg and Lyon, respectively.

The Spain forward Lucía García left Marc Skinner’s side at the end of her contract in June but the club’s hope is that Terland will give them a boost in front of goal. Additionally, it is understood United have triggered an option in the England forward Nikita Parris’s contract, keeping her at the club until the summer of 2025, although there are still several clubs interested in signing her.

Terland was part of the Norway team that drew 1-1 in Finland on Friday in a Euro 2025 qualifier, coming on to replace Arsenal’s Frida Maanum as a second-half substitute. Norway host the Netherlands in their final qualifier on Tuesday.

She has been with Brighton for two years, helping them finish 11th and ninth respectively in the past two campaigns. The club have already been busy in the transfer market this summer bringing players in, including attacking options with the England forward Fran Kirby and the Japan striker Kiko Seike joining their ranks, softening the blow of the expected departure of their leading scorer from each of the past two seasons.

Terland signed a two-year contract at Brighton in 2022, which expired at the end of June. She had previously played for the Norwegian club Brann, for whom she had scored 10 times during the campaign immediately before her move to England. She was part of her country’s squad for Euro 2022 in England and she also represented Norway in multiple age-group teams.

Elsewhere, the former England youth forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has signed a new one-year contract with the Championship side London City Lionesses, for whom the former Aston Villa and Everton player scored eight league goals last term.
